Job Announcement

Full-time Organizing Coordinator Staff Position

Domestic Workers United organizes nannies, housekeepers and elderly caregivers toward power, respect, fair labor standards and to help build a movement to end exploitation and oppression for all. This coordinator position is primarily to support new organizers generally and membership basebuilding, campaign and leadership development work among the Latina membership of DWU. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Organizational Development

• Help in the managing of finances for the organization

• Provide support to the new organizer

• Secure and train interpreters

Leadership Development

• Help develop and improve educational curriculum for all programs

• Support the leadership and participation of all members, particularly Latina membership

Basebuilding

• Outreach to domestic workers and follow-up relationship building

• Coordination of DWU members who are doing outreach to other workers

• Phone-banking and cultivating contacts made by members during outreach

• Recruiting members for phonebanking

Campaign

• Coordinate members to speak with legislators, at universities, churches and other venues about the campaign

• Facilitate member involvement in media work

• Outreach and follow-up to allies and supporters

• Increase member involvement in campaign work

• Support and work together with new organizer in all the above areas

Qualifications:

• Has at least 5 year experience as staff for a social justice organization

• Committed to the mission, vision and work of the organization

• Flexibility in schedule, understanding that hours will be long at times

• Takes initiative and is able to work independently

• Able to receive feedback

• Reliable, punctual

• Good listening skills

• Can make a 2 year commitment

• Bilingual in Spanish

• Has administration and computer skills

• Has at least 2 years experience creating and conducting trainings

• Has at least 2 years experience as a supervisor

Salary:

$36,000 – 40,000 Depending on experience
